Use this free activity from our Unit of the Month for November, The Little Red Hen, based on the storybook by Lucinda McQueen. Children will learn about simple investigations, exploring the environment, and the concept that properties can change over time. Let them help you bake a loaf of bread!

Oh I wish we had on oven in our classrooms at my school.
The only cooking I can do is in the microwave or maybe on the electric pan/griddle. (Sigh…)
I didn’t have an oven in my school for a long time. One thing you could do is borrow a bread machine from someone or try to find one at a yard sale. If you can’t find one, you could always either have the kids help you make it and then take it home to bake, or you could just make some on your own at home and do a tasting at school. It would be fun to have them guess what ingredients go into making the bread and then tell them the actual ingredients. You could also find a video online of how bread is made and then do a bread tasting of different types. If none of that sounds good, you can always make pancakes on your griddle!
